Behavioral scientists have found that good listening is one of the most important things we can do to improve our relationships, develop our worldview, and potentially even change people’s minds.

It’s easy to tell when someone’s not paying attention, but it can be surprisingly tricky to know what truly excellent listening looks like. Behavioral scientists have found that good listening is one of the most important things we can do to improve our relationships, develop our worldview, and potentially even change people’s minds.
で「人が注意を払っているかを見分けるのは簡単ですが、優れた傾聴というものが実際どんなものかを知ることは驚くほど難しいことと言えるでしょう。行動科学者たちの研究の結果、人間関係を改善したり、世界観を養ったり、さらには人の心を変えたりするために、人の話をよく聞くことは、私達ができることの中でも非常に大切なものであることが分かってきています。」という意味になります。

It’s easy to tell when ～ で「いつ～かを見分けるのは簡単だ」です。
It is ～ to do …「…するのは～だ」の構文です。
tell は「伝える、言う」という意味以外にも「～を見分ける、識別する」という意味もあります。
例：tell if an egg is fresh「卵が新鮮かどうかを見分ける」
何を見分けるのかというと、
when someone’s not paying attention, で「人が注意を払っていない時を」です。
someone is not paying attention で「人が注意を払っていない」です。
pay attention で「注意を払う」という意味のイディオムです。

but ～「だが～」
it can be surprisingly tricky to know ～ で「～を知るのは驚くほど難しくなりうる」です。
さきほどの It is easy to do ～ と同じ構成で、
tricky はここでは easy の反対の意味で「難しい、やりにくい、ややこしい、厄介な」という意味になっています。
例：tricky job「用心の必要な仕事、難しい仕事」
何をするのが難しいのかというと、
to know what ～ で「～が何かを知る（理解する）こと」です。
何を知ることかというと、
what truly excellent listening looks like. で「本当に優れた傾聴というものがどんなものかを」です。
What does ～ look like? で「～はどんな感じですか？」という意味になります。
look like ～ は「～に見える、～な風な感じである」という意味のコロケーション。
look は「見える」ですが、視覚的な意味以外にも使えます。
例：What does your business look like?「景気はどうですか？」
truly excellent listening で「本当に優れた傾聴」です。
listening で「人の話を（しっかり）聞くこと」という意味の名詞です。

Behavioral scientists have found that ～ で「行動科学者たちは～ということを発見した」です。
何を発見したかというと、
(that) listening is one of the most important things で「傾聴は最も重要なことの一つだ」です。
one of the most ～「最も～なものの一つだ」は、英語でよく使われる言い回しですね。
the most important things (that) we can do で「最も重要なもの、私たちができる」
(we can do) to improve our relationships, で「私たちの人間関係を改善するために（できること）」です。
relationship は「関係、人間関係、人とのかかわり」という意味の名詞。可算名詞になります。

それではまず文節に分けて日本語に訳し内容を理解して下さい。

～を見分けるのは簡単だ

when someone’s not paying attention,
人が注意を払っていない時を

but
しかし

it can be surprisingly tricky
～は驚くほど難しいことかもしれない

to know
～を知ることは
